3 including a woman die, 15 hurt in road accident

ALLAHABAD: Three persons including a woman were killed and 15 others sustained injuries when a mini-bus collided head on with a speeding truck near Meja road on Allahabad-Mirzapur road under Meja police station on Wednesday morning.

Deputy SP, Meja, Gyananjaya Singh said the negligence towards traffic rules and regulation was the prime reason behind the incident.

Deceased were identified as Laxmikant Shukla (55) and Dharmendra Singh (32), both residents of Koraon and Sunita Devi (30) resident of Manda.

While 15 others including Amresh Chandra, Ranjana Devi, Harsh (5) and Adarsh (3) were admitted to a city-based hospital for treatment.

Police said that the mini-bus carrying passengers was on its way to Allahabad when a speeding truck heading towards Koraon collided head on with it and resulted the death of three passengers. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination.

Police added that the condition of three injured was stated to be critical. Police also added that case has also been lodged with Meja police station regarding the incident.

Devotee killed in road accident: A 20-year-old devotee was killed and six others injured when an auto carrying them overturned near Mukti Marg under GT Jhunsi police station in Kumbh Mela area here on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Ajeet Kumar, a native of Bhagalpur in Bihar. The accident took place when the auto driver lost balance on the vehicle. Mela police suspect that head injury led to Ajeet's death. The body was later sent for postmortem. Reports said a group of devotees from Bhagalpur (Bihar) had come to Allahabad and were staying at a local ashram. They were heading to Sangam for holy dip when the accident occurred.
