Students go berserk over girl's death in accident

ALLAHABAD: Irked over the death of a BTech student in a road accident, hundreds of students on Thursday went berserk and damaged over two dozen vehicles. The incident took place in Dhoomanganj police circle. The deceased was identified as Nishtha Srivasatva, 19, a resident of Rajruppur.

A speeding bus hit the two-wheeler which Nishtha was riding. She died on the spot. On getting information about the accident, hundreds of students and locals assembled on the spot and started vandalising vehicles passing on the route. The irate mob ransacked the window panes of over two dozen vehicles and manhandled some commuters.

Police rushed to the spot and chased away the agitators. The students were demanding action against the errant bus driver. Sensing trouble, the police diverted the traffic coming from Kanpur. Nishtha's body was later sent for postmortem.
